Natural gas may not last forever but the competition for customers between gas and other utility providers could rage on for a long time to come. In this current age of economic problems, more and more people are on the look out for better value for money utility options.
There is probably no better time to be shopping around for a cheaper deal on your
electricity and gas prices. In years gone by many of us have been held to ransom by the utility companies we use. But slowly the balance of power has gradually begun to transfer back to the consumer, the everyday Joe Average who likes to stay toasty warm all winter long. With the fact that natural gas reserves are beginning to dwindle, many of us thought that the price war may go the other way and we would have to pay a premium to have a hot bath. At present this isn't the case, so how are we supposed to choose sides in this price war and not get left in the cold area known as 'no man's land'?
The Good, The Bad And The Snugly
It is often tempting and convenient to get everything from one place. At the end of the day that's probably the reason most of us would rather go to a supermarket that's as big as a small country, rather than visiting the greengrocers, then the butchers, then the bakers and so on. The same rule applies to our energy providers. For them it also provides another revenue stream, it is after all quite narrow to only offer a single service, especially when that service isn't going to last forever. If we take the energy provider nPower as an example, their nPower home energy branch is split into two further arms, nPower gas and nPower electricity. They don't offer better quality gas or electricity but they do compete with the other companies and drive home energy prices down. As such then there isn't really a way to brand an energy provider as bad unless they offer ridculously high prices.
Where's The Best Price?
As well as electricity, gas prices vary greatly on an almost day-to-day basis. Only personal investigation will unearth the truly great deals. Years ago British Gas could charge almost anything they wanted as they held all the cards in play, but that all changed when competitors were allowed into the market and without a doubt the likes of nPower electricity and gas took away a huge share of that market. After taking a bit, competitors now want the lot and there are a large number of deals on the table all ready to be snapped up by the consumer. Npower deals are as competitive as any offered by any of their big competitors and now there are also a number of extremely useful websites that help the consumer identify the best available gas prices.
No one can accurately say how long the natural gas reserves will last for, in a similar sort of way to how no one can really say how long the gas price war will rage on for. It surely can't last much longer, what with all sides suffering great losses during the dark economic winter. But for the time being we should all take advantage of the current energy war economy.
